Ep. 83: Reflection or Introspection: What Do You Need Right Now?
Quote: "Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom." ― Aristotle
Folks, how often do you spend time to reflect and introspect? Do you allow space and time to pause and reflect where you are going, how you are getting there, and why you're going there?
Quote: "The philosophy of the wisest man that ever existed, is mainly derived from the act of introspection." ― William Godwin
In this episode, I explore how reflection serves as a mirror to your past actions, while introspection is an x ray for examining your inner motivations and intentions. What do you need at this present moment? I 'm going to also share how this useful framework can help you increase your awareness. I'll be sharing:
- Definitions of reflection and introspection
- Story 1: Lighthouse
- Story 2: Water Bottle
- Main Takeaway: Mirror vs. X Ray
- Action steps to help increase your self-awareness!
Show Notes
[1:41 Hi folks, welcome to episode 83 of the Boom Vision podcast!
What's the difference between reflection and introspection? Why is this important?
Definition of reflection and introspection
[2:34] Personal Story: Lighthouse Example
[4:22] Water Bottle Story
[6:03] Main Takeaway: Mirror vs X Ray
[7:11] Action Steps: Use the CAL Method
- Calming: Find a way to calm your mind so you can turn off your wind tunnel like I mentioned in the Episode 2. Breathing exercise? Meditation? Do you like to run?
- Awareness: Bring awareness to your physical, mental and emotional bodies. Imagine you are standing on top of a hillside with a gentle breeze. As you stand still and feel grounded on that hilltop, imagine 2 objects appear in front of you. On one side, it's a full body mirror. On the other side, an x ray machine that can scan your body and show what's underneath. I want you to bring awareness on what object you gravitate towards. Do you gravitate towards reflecting or introspecting?
- Language: Asking yourself 2 questions:
- Why am I drawn to this object (mirror or x ray)?
- What part of my body, mind, emotion or soul needs some of my attention at this present moment?
[10:19] Final Thoughts
Quote: "To know yourself as the Being underneath the thinker, the stillness underneath the mental noise, the love and joy underneath the pain, is freedom, salvation, enlightenment." - Eckhart Tolle
I hope today's episode inspires you to reflect and introspect. Whether it's a mirror or an x ray, I hope you learned some tools today to help you bring more self awareness to yourself, on what your mind, body and soul needs.
