Ep. 76: Magical Insights: Creating Safe Zones and Circuit Breakers

"I am a great admirer of mystery and magic. Look at this life - all mystery and magic." ― Harry Houdini

Folks, how do you create magical moments when you are conversing with another person?  What kind of space do you create to invite others to be heard, to be seen and to feel understood?

Quote:  "Through my research, I found that vulnerability is the glue that holds relationships together. It's the magic sauce." ―  Brene Brown

In today's episode, I'm going to share a secret about what I learned being a magician. I'm going to share how magic has taught me how to create a safe space that allow people to experience magical moments, and a technique I call circuit breakers.  I'll be sharing:

  1. Lessons I learned being a magician: Line of Sight
  2. Safe Zone, Red Zone, No Fly Zone
  3. Technique of Circuit Breakers
  4. Action steps to help you create space where magical moments can be experienced!

Show Notes

[1:40] Hi folks, welcome to episode 76 of the Boom Vision podcast!

Today's topic centers around creating safe zone in conversations, and how to hold that intentional space.

[2:08] Personal Story of what I learned being a magician: Line of Sight

  • Safe Zone
  • Red Zone
  • No Fly Zone

[6:27] Circuit Breakers

  • What are questions or prompts to redirect the energy and attention in a conversation?

[11:17]  Action Steps

With that said, what are this week's ACTION STEPS? CAL Method

  1. Calm: What is a way to calm yourself?
  2. Awareness: Bring awareness to the situation or conversation you are about to have: What energy levels is the topic or people you plan to have a conversation with? Do they tend to fly in the Safe Zone, Red Zone or No Fly Zone?
  3. Language: Ask yourself 3 questions
    1. Do I have the intention of creating a safe zone for people to experience magic?
    2. Do I have the right level of energy and mindset to hold the space for magic to happen?

Remember the Brene Brown quote I shared? Vulnerability is the glue that holds relationships together, it's the magic cause. Perhaps sharing what you are feeling internally can invite and call people in to a loving space, rather than being called out.

[14:07] Final Thoughts

Quote: "When you’re touched by magic, nothing’s ever quite the same again. What really makes me sad is all those people who never have the chance to know that touch. They’re too busy, or they just don’t hold with make-believe, so they shut the door without really knowing it was there to be opened in the first place." - Charles de Lint

I hope today's episode inspires you to see, think and create different.  Magic happens when you hold the space and possibility for it to occur. Being mindful of what space you hold, mentally, verbally and spiritually can make a difference on how other's will experience their interact with you. Do you create an environment for people to feel magic?
