Welcome to episode 38 of the Boom Vision podcast! First off, happy new year everyone! I am delighted to start off this new year with today's interview with Julie DeLucca-Collins.

I first met Julie in the same business community, SPI Pro (<- affiliate link), that was started by Pat Flynn.  After meeting in the community and being a guest on her podcast, Casa DeConfidence

I invited her to my mastermind group early in 2022 and I'm just blessed to build this warm friendship.  In getting to know her own life journey, I knew I had her have Julie on this show.

As a brief background:

As a Business and Life Strategist Coach, Julie helps women business owners launch or grow their businesses, get clients, be productive, and achieve their dreams. Julie helps her clients create simple habits to achieve goals and change their lives.

Julie is also the #1 best-selling author of the book Confident You (simple habits to live the life you've imagined).

So without further ado, here's Julie:

[4:42] - Julie's origin story.

  • (JDC) Originally from El Salvador
  • Started career in education
  • Separated from being a corporate executive in 2020.
  • Became a business coach

[12:10] - (BY) Your story reminds me of a quote: "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." - Helen Keller (Episode 33 - 3C's)

[12:53] - (BY) Confidence: Julie, you have a podcast show called Casa DeConfidence, and you also host a radio show, called Confident You. How would you define Confidence?

(JDC) For me, confidence is the ability to be able to do the thing, even if you are starting small, and deciding that it's not about doing it perfect, but doing it, and taking that leap.

Failures are just lessons.

It is not motivation that allows you to create a habit, it is actually feeling good that allows your brain to start encoding a new behavior.

[16:38] - (BY) Spiritual Awakening: Was there an event in your life that had a profound impact in your life, pivoting you to a different path than you originally charted?

[27:39] - (JDC) My favorite form of meditation is making my afternoon tea.

I actually run a meditation group: Peaceful You

[31:13] (BY) Happiness & Success: How would you define Happiness and Success? In your experience, does success lead to happiness or vice versa?

(JDC) Happiness is typically prompted by things.

Success is more about setting that intention.

[34:05] - (BY) Reminds me of a quote: "Always be yourself: express yourself, have faith in yourself. Do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it." - Bruce Lee

[36:45] - (BY) Tiny Habits 101: What is it, what compelled you to learn this framework and how has it impacted your life?

(JDC) Book Recommendation: I read Atomic Habits by James Clear and I loved the book

I listened to Dr. BJ Fogg in one of the Clubhouse rooms. He founded the Behavior Design Lab at Sanford University and has been studying habits for 20 years.

Your brain changes when it feels good.

What Tiny Habits teaches you is:

  1. Find the anchor moments in your life.
  2. Pair that desired behavior to that anchor moment.
  3. When you do that anchor moment, you want to do it small. Simple steps that easily achievable.
  4. Immediately after doing that small thing, you celebrate!
  5. Repeat to build consistency!

[42:03] (BY) In terms of roadblocks that you’ve encountered with your clients as a Business Coach, we both know that as much as it’s great increase your horsepower in your car, you may have 10,000 pound limiting belief luggage stuck in your trunk.

What’s the top habit that you highly recommend our audience to start creating first? And what’s the top bad habit that you recommend our audience to break free from?

(JDC) 1) What are the ways they sabotage themselves? There different sabotaging characteristics. For me, mine is high achiever, restless, and controller. These are my top 3 saboteurs.

Top bad habit for my women clients is comparisonitis, compare and despair.

[48:39] Book Recommendation: Positive Intelligence by Shirzad Chamine

[50:06] - (BY) Advice: For my listeners that are entrepreneurs or career professionals that are ready to start thriving in their life, can you share the Tiny Habits framework to help our audience on their journey to thrive?

(JDC)

1) First step is writing down what you want to accomplish (word for the year, etc.) every day in your anchor moment

2) Picking something that you can be consistent with that's in alignment to your goal.

Quote: “There is little success where there is little laughter.” – Andrew Carnegie

[55:35] - (BY) Time Machine: What is one thing you would tell yourself if you had an ability to travel back 10 years ago, what would you share with your younger self?

(JDC) I would tell her: "Discomfort is the currency for your dreams." - Brooke Castillo

[1:00:09] - (BY) Where can our listeners find you?

Julie's information:

[1:02:01] - Final Takeaway: Folks, what a delightful chat with my friend today.

The biggest takeaway I got from today's interview is how Julie defines confidence. Confidence is the ability to be able to do the thing, even if you are starting small, and deciding that it's not about doing it perfect, but doing it, and taking that leap. It is not motivation that allows you to create a habit, it is actually feeling good that allows your brain to start encoding a new behavior.

So whatever you set out to achieve for 2023. As Julie has said, write it down. Get clear on your intentions and write it down, find those anchor moments in your life and pair it up with the desired behavior. Take bite size steps and celebrate your wins in each step. Consistency and tiny habits will magnify your success in achieving your goals. YOU GO THIS!
